Winterizing Your Inground Pool
Make sure your pool water is clean and balanced Vacuum waste off the bottom of the pool and clean above the water line Repair any leaks before closing the pool. The water inside must remain at a constant level during winter months Add winterizing chemicals according to manufacturer instruction Drain the water to 1 inch below in-wall skimmer opening Remove the filter system, drain all the water, and store the system inside (if possible). If the system remains outside, make sure all the water is drained Remove skimmer basket and vein With an air compressor, blow air into the skimmer plumbing line where the pump was attached. After all the water is removed, plug the opening in the bottom of the skimmer using a threaded gizzmo or by using a 1½ inch threaded plug with o-ring and and an empty plastic bottle in the skimmer If the pool has a main drain, blow air into the main drain plumbing line where the pump was attached. This will cause air bubbles to discharge into the pool. While the air bubbles are discharging, close the valve. This will trap the air in the line Blow out the return lines where the filter was attached. The return lines will be below water, so plug it with a 1½ inch threaded plug while the air bubbles are discharging into the pool. If the air blower is shut off before the plugs are installed,
the return lines will fill back up with water Make sure any equipment left outside is drained. Attach the plastic over the plumbing and secure with it tape Install a winter cover using the manufacture's instructions. Do not allow more than 2 inches of water on top of cover. If there is water, drain it before it freezes. |
